iTero Financing
Finance iTero intraoral scanners including the iTero Element 5D, Element Plus, and Lumina. Application-only up to $400k. Funding in 1-2 weeks. B/C credit considered.
Scan time is chair time, and the iTero scanner makes both count. A full-arch scan that used to require a tray, a mix, and a patient sitting motionless for four minutes now takes ninety seconds, produces a color 3D model, and integrates directly with the practice management system and lab portal. For an orthodontic practice, the change is production-level: more case presentations per session, faster approval cycles, and a visual tool that improves patient understanding of the treatment plan. The financing decision is not whether the scanner pays for itself, but how to structure the payment so cash flow is preserved during the adjustment period.
iTero is an Align Technology brand, the same company that manufactures Invisalign clear aligners. That relationship is not coincidental: iTero scanners are the preferred digital capture tool for Invisalign case submission, and the software integration between iTero and the Align ecosystem gives orthodontists and Invisalign-certified GPs a tighter workflow than any other scanner-aligner combination. As a standalone scanner, the iTero is also fully competitive for crown and bridge impressions, denture digital workflows, and implant planning. The scanner cost varies by model: the Element 5D has historically been priced roughly $35k–$60k new, while the Lumina (the current top-of-line) is positioned higher.
We finance iTero scanners as standalone purchases or as part of a broader digital workflow investment. Our minimum transaction is $50,000, which a scanner plus installation and a training package can reach. Application-only financing up to approximately $400,000. Fast approvals, funding in about one to two weeks.
Which iTero Are You Buying
The current iTero lineup has three active positions. The iTero Lumina is the newest and most capable unit, featuring upgraded optics and the widest scan coverage in the iTero family. It is aimed at high-volume orthodontic practices and multi-location groups that want the best scan quality and speed. The Lumina is where Align Technology has concentrated development resources, and it is the model to buy if you expect to run the scanner heavily and keep it for six to eight years.
The iTero Element 5D added near-infrared interproximal caries detection alongside standard 3D scanning, giving clinicians an additional diagnostic layer for identifying early-stage interproximal lesions without additional radiographs. For general dentists who want the scanner to do dual duty as both an impression replacement and a caries detection tool, the 5D capability is a meaningful clinical differentiator. The iTero Element Plus is the mid-tier option, offering solid scan quality and Invisalign integration at a lower price point than the 5D or Lumina.
Used and certified pre-owned iTero units do circulate in the market, primarily when practices upgrade from the Element or Element Plus to the 5D or Lumina. CPO units qualify for financing with us, though terms are shorter and the age of the unit matters. An Element 5D purchased two years ago at CPO is a different financing situation than a first-generation Element from seven years ago.
Who Benefits Most from an iTero
Orthodontic practices are the primary iTero buyers and for obvious reasons: the Invisalign workflow runs through iTero, and even practices that offer other aligner systems or bracket orthodontics find the scanner's ease of use and patient-friendly workflow a production upgrade. High-volume ortho practices scanning ten to fifteen new patients per day can see a meaningful chair-time reduction from the speed of iTero scanning versus competing units.
GP practices certified to provide Invisalign are a second major customer. The GP that wants to capture aligner production within the practice rather than referring out benefits from a scanner that streamlines the submission workflow. Every aligner case submitted without a physical impression is a case handled faster, with less potential for remakes due to impression errors.
Practices targeting a younger, digitally aware patient demographic also see a marketing dimension to the iTero investment. Patients who expect a modern experience, including digital impressions rather than goopy trays, notice the difference and comment on it positively. For cosmetic dentistry practices where the patient experience is part of the value proposition, an iTero is a visible commitment to current technology.
Already Own an iTero? Options to Know
Practices that financed an iTero Element 5D or earlier model two to four years ago may have equity in the equipment if it was purchased new and the payoff is well below market value. A Sale-Leaseback Financing on an owned iTero scanner converts that equity to cash without interrupting use of the equipment. You sell us the scanner at fair market value, we lease it back to you, and you continue scanning without a break in clinical workflow. The capital released can fund the next technology purchase or cover operating needs.
For practices looking to upgrade from an older Element to the Lumina, an equipment refinance that wraps the old unit's payoff into the new purchase is one path forward. Alternatively, the old unit can be traded in through Align's certified pre-owned program, with the trade-in credit applied to the new purchase and the net amount financed through us. We work around whatever the dealer arrangement looks like.

Questions
Does the monthly iTero subscription have to be paid separately from the equipment financing?
Yes. Align Technology charges a monthly software subscription for iTero usage, separate from the equipment purchase price. The hardware is financed through us; the subscription is paid directly to Align. Some practices factor that ongoing cost into their total scanner cost-of-ownership analysis when comparing iTero against other scanners that do not carry a subscription.
Can I finance the iTero if I am not currently certified to offer Invisalign?
Yes. The scanner purchase is independent of your Invisalign certification status. Many GP practices buy the iTero in anticipation of getting certified, or to use it immediately for crown and bridge workflows while they complete the certification process. Financing is based on your creditworthiness and the equipment value, not your product certifications.
How does the iTero Element 5D caries detection feature affect the clinical case for financing it vs. the Element Plus?
The 5D's near-infrared imaging capability for interproximal caries detection gives it a diagnostic utility beyond scanning. If your practice diagnoses and monitors early-stage interproximal lesions, the 5D can reduce the radiographic dose while catching lesions earlier. Whether that clinical capability justifies the price premium depends on your patient mix and how much you rely on two-dimensional radiographs for caries detection currently.
My practice has been open for eight months. Can I qualify for iTero financing?
Eight months is early, but not impossible. We look at your revenue trajectory, personal credit, and the strength of your Invisalign or digital workflow business case. If personal credit is solid and collections are trending upward, we may be able to structure something. Startup-oriented programs that lean more heavily on personal credit are an option for practices without a long collections history.
Can I compare iTero financing terms to Align's own financing options?
Absolutely. Align Technology and authorized dealers offer their own financing programs, typically through preferred lenders. Those programs are structured for the cleanest credit profiles. Our programs cover a wider range, and we can offer structures like sale-leaseback that manufacturer financing programs do not. Comparing is worth the few minutes it takes.
