Planmeca Financing
Finance Planmeca equipment including ProMax 3D CBCT, Viso CBCT, Emerald S intraoral scanner, and Compact i dental chairs. Application-only up to $400k. Decisions in days.
Planmeca builds its product line around the idea that every operatory touchpoint, from the chair to the scanner to the CBCT unit, should talk to the same software platform. That integration story is why multi-operatory practices and tech-forward dentists gravitate toward Planmeca, and it is also why a Planmeca buildout tends to carry a higher price tag than piecing together equipment from multiple brands. The question is not whether it is worth it; for the right practice, it usually is. The question is how to fund it without tying up working capital during a period when the practice is adding capacity.
Planmeca is a Finnish company founded in 1971. Its catalog is wide: the ProMax 3D and Viso CBCT lines are among the most capable 3D imaging units in dentistry, the Emerald S is a compact and clinically precise intraoral scanner, and the Compact i treatment center is a fully integrated chair and delivery system that feeds patient data directly into Planmeca Romexis software. A practice building out one operatory with a Compact i and adding a CBCT unit is typically looking at $80,000 to $200,000. A multi-operatory digital suite can push well past $300,000.
We finance Planmeca equipment across that full range, with a minimum transaction size of $50,000. Application-only approval is available up to approximately $400,000. For larger transactions, three months of bank statements is the standard additional document. Approvals come back within a few business days; funding arrives in about one to two weeks after approval.
Planmeca Equipment We Finance
The imaging line is where Planmeca draws the most attention. The Planmeca ProMax 3D CBCT is a high-resolution, configurable CBCT unit used heavily in implant planning, orthodontic case assessment, and endodontic diagnosis. It offers multiple field-of-view configurations and optional cephalometric capability. The Planmeca Viso is the premium large-volume unit, with a 30x30cm maximum field and one of the highest image quality ratings in its class. Practices adding implant services or growing into oral surgery cases often anchor their imaging upgrade on one of these two units.
On the scanner side, the Planmeca Emerald S intraoral scanner is a lightweight, colorless-scan-capable unit that integrates directly into the Planmeca digital workflow. For practices already using Romexis, adding the Emerald S is an extension of a platform they already know. For practices coming from a different scanner, the Emerald S is a compact entry into full-color intraoral scanning without the bulk of earlier-generation systems.
The Planmeca Compact i treatment center is the chair and delivery system that makes the integration argument concrete. Patient data captured in the chair flows into Romexis for imaging, treatment planning, and charting. It is not a cheap unit, but for a practice building from scratch or replacing aging equipment, it eliminates the software coordination friction that comes with mixed-brand operatory setups.
New vs. Used Planmeca Equipment
New Planmeca equipment comes with full manufacturer warranty coverage and, in most cases, integration support from the authorized dealer. For a CBCT unit especially, new is often worth the premium because calibration and service continuity matter more than with simpler equipment.
That said, certified pre-owned Planmeca CBCT and scanning equipment does circulate in the market, typically through practice transitions, consolidations, or equipment refreshes at larger groups. Used Planmeca equipment qualifies for financing with us, subject to the system being in documented working condition. We regularly finance CPO ProMax units and refurbished Compact i chairs for practices where the budget makes new impractical and where a well-maintained used unit serves the clinical need.
For practices considering used equipment, pairing the purchase with a used equipment financing structure gives you the flexibility of a longer term without the full upfront outlay of a new purchase. Terms on used equipment typically max out at 48 to 60 months depending on the age and condition of the unit.
Refinance and Sale-Leaseback Options
Practices that financed Planmeca equipment two or three years ago sometimes find the payment no longer fits the practice's financial picture, either because revenues have shifted or because a newer upgrade is coming up and they want to free up cash. A equipment refinance can extend the remaining term, lower the monthly payment, or pull out equity if the payoff is below market value.
A Sale-Leaseback Financing takes that a step further. If you own your Planmeca CBCT or chair system outright, we can buy it from you at fair market value and lease it back. You keep using the equipment, you receive a lump sum of capital, and the monthly lease payment replaces what you were previously paying. Practices use that released capital to fund additional operatory buildouts, technology upgrades, or working capital needs without taking on a separate line of credit.
This approach works particularly well for practices that paid cash for a Planmeca system during a strong revenue period and now want to redeploy that capital as they expand. The equipment continues earning production; the released cash funds the next operatory.

Questions
Can I finance a Planmeca CBCT and an Emerald S scanner together in one deal?
Yes. We regularly finance Planmeca digital imaging packages that combine a CBCT unit with an intraoral scanner and any associated software or installation. Bundling them into one transaction typically simplifies approval and gives you a single monthly payment.
Is application-only financing available for a Planmeca ProMax 3D?
Yes, if the purchase price falls within the application-only threshold of approximately $400,000. The ProMax 3D in most configurations is well within that range. You fill out a one-page application, we run the credit review, and in most cases you have a decision within a few business days without providing tax returns or detailed financials.
My practice is two years old. Can I qualify for Planmeca financing?
Practices in their second or third year can qualify. We look at cash flow, collections, and the practice's growth trajectory alongside credit history. A two-year-old practice with consistent revenues and a clear production upside from the equipment is a workable deal. Brand-new startups have a different path; see our startup practice financing page for details.
Can I include installation and software in the financed amount?
In most cases, yes. Soft costs like installation, training, and Planmeca Romexis software licenses can be included in the financed amount, up to a reasonable percentage of the hard equipment value. Ask us when you submit your application and we will confirm what can be rolled in.
How does an FMV lease differ from a dollar buyout lease for Planmeca equipment?
With a fair market value (FMV) lease, your payment is lower because you are not financing ownership, and at end of term you can purchase at FMV, renew, or return. With a dollar buyout lease, you pay a slightly higher monthly amount but own the equipment at the end for $1. Planmeca CBCT units tend to hold value well, which makes the dollar buyout attractive if you plan to keep the system long-term. Our page on FMV vs. dollar buyout leases walks through the trade-offs in detail.
