Dentsply Sirona CEREC MC XL Milling Unit Financing
Finance a new or used Dentsply Sirona CEREC MC XL milling unit. Proven CAD/CAM platform for chairside restorations. Application-only up to $400k.
The CEREC MC XL has been the backbone of chairside milling in thousands of practices for over a decade, and the pre-owned market for it is deep enough that practices with tighter capital budgets can enter the same-day restoration workflow at meaningfully lower cost than a new Primemill requires. Dentsply Sirona still supports the MC XL with current software, the unit mills the same material range as the newer unit (lithium disilicate, composite resin, zirconia in appropriate configurations), and a well-maintained MC XL in the hands of a trained team produces clinically acceptable restorations that patients cannot distinguish from lab-fabricated work.
The question for buyers today is usually not whether the MC XL works. It does. The question is whether the cost difference between a certified pre-owned MC XL and a new Primemill justifies the performance gap in milling speed and 5-axis geometry. We finance both, and we can help you think through which deal structure makes sense for your practice's production goals.
New Stock vs. Pre-Owned MC XL
New MC XL units are no longer manufactured; Dentsply Sirona officially transitioned to the Primemill as the current-generation milling unit. What is available today is dealer-certified pre-owned inventory, refurbished units, and in some cases dealer new-old-stock if a distributor carried unsold inventory through the transition. The pre-owned market for the MC XL is active and dealer-certified units typically come with a limited warranty and software version documentation.
Financing a pre-owned MC XL follows our standard used equipment process. We need the dealer invoice, condition documentation (dealer inspection report or refurbishment certificate), and software version eligibility documentation. The deal moves through the same application timeline as a new equipment purchase, roughly one to two weeks from complete application to funded. Our used equipment financing page covers the documentation requirements for pre-owned dental technology in detail.
If you are weighing a pre-owned MC XL against a new Primemill, the CEREC Primemill financing page breaks out the clinical and operational differences between the two units so you can frame the cost-benefit comparison accurately before deciding.
What the MC XL Does and Where It Works Best
The CEREC MC XL is a 4-axis dry-milling unit. It mills from standard CEREC-format disc or block media, and the material library covers the same ceramic and composite families as the Primemill: IPS e.max CAD lithium disilicate, Vita Enamic, PMMA for temporaries, and zirconia in select configurations when the appropriate spindle is fitted. The 4-axis limitation means certain deep undercut geometries require more conservative restoration design compared to the Primemill's 5-axis motion, but for the majority of single-unit restorations, this does not affect the clinical result.
Milling cycle times on the MC XL run longer than the Primemill, particularly for zirconia and harder ceramic materials. A single crown in e.max CAD typically mills in 20 to 30 minutes on the MC XL versus under 15 on the Primemill. For practices that do one or two same-day cases per day, that time difference is minor. For practices scheduling four or more same-day restorations in a session, the slower cycle time becomes a constraint.
The full CEREC CAD/CAM workflow applies equally to the MC XL and the Primemill. For practices that have not yet built their scanner piece, the CEREC CAD/CAM financing overview explains how scanner and mill work together. The Dentsply Sirona brand financing page covers the complete product ecosystem.
For practices interested in the broader CAD/CAM milling category beyond the CEREC family, our CAD/CAM milling unit financing overview covers alternative units from Roland and other manufacturers.
Who Finances an MC XL Today
Three buyer profiles dominate MC XL financing requests. First, practices entering the same-day restoration space for the first time with a constrained capital budget that makes the pre-owned MC XL more accessible than a new Primemill. Second, multi-location practices opening a satellite operatory that needs milling capability without the full flagship investment at each location. Third, practices upgrading from an older CEREC generation (AC unit or first-generation MC) where the MC XL is the step up rather than the step back.
General dental practices with a moderate restorative caseload, in the three to eight single-unit restoration range per week, are the sweet spot. General dentistry practices that have been using a lab for all restorations and want to capture some of that margin in-house find the MC XL a reasonable first milling investment. The workflow change is manageable, the learning curve is well-documented by the large CEREC user community, and the entry cost is lower than the current generation.
Group practices adding milling to a second or third location also specify the MC XL. Group and multi-location practices that want consistent CEREC workflows across all offices without spending full Primemill pricing at every site use the pre-owned MC XL to fill secondary locations cost-effectively.

Questions
Can I finance a pre-owned MC XL from an individual practice rather than a dealer?
Private party purchases are not eligible for our standard program. We require a dealer invoice from an authorized or certified refurbisher to confirm software version, condition, and warranty status. If you have found a unit through a private seller, connecting it to a dealer who can formally refurbish and certify it may create a path.
Will Dentsply Sirona still provide software updates for the MC XL?
As of the current software generation, CEREC software updates have maintained backwards compatibility with MC XL hardware. This can change with major version updates, so confirming current software compatibility with Dentsply Sirona or your authorized dealer before purchase is advisable, particularly if you are buying a unit that has been out of service.
My practice has a prior default on a business line of credit. Can I still qualify?
A prior default is a serious underwriting factor, but it does not automatically disqualify an application. We look at the circumstances, how long ago the default occurred, how the situation was resolved, and the current financial position of the practice. Cases with prior defaults often require more documentation and may involve different terms, but we review each situation individually.
Can I pair the MC XL with a used Omnicam and finance both together?
Yes. Two pieces of used dealer-certified equipment can be bundled on a single invoice and financed together. Each piece needs its own condition documentation, but the deal itself runs as one combined transaction. This is a common approach for practices entering the CEREC workflow entirely from used equipment at a lower total cost.
