Dentsply Sirona Primescan Intraoral Scanner Financing

Full-arch in under a minute changes the pace of the appointment. The Dentsply Sirona Primescan was designed to do exactly that, and the scanner's deep scan technology, which captures data up to 20 mm below the surface of the gingival margin in a single acquisition, has made it one of the most widely adopted intraoral scanners in high-volume restorative and implant practices. The Primescan replaced the CEREC Omnicam as Dentsply Sirona's flagship scanner, and the scan speed and AI-assisted processing that drives it are meaningfully faster than the previous generation.

Pricing for the Primescan depends on the licensing tier and whether it is purchased as part of a CEREC workflow bundle with a milling unit. Standalone scanner configurations typically start priced roughly $30k–$40k. When bundled with a Primemill or MC XL and the full CEREC software license, the total package can exceed $100,000 and qualify cleanly for our equipment financing programs.

What Makes the Primescan Clinically Useful

The Primescan uses what Dentsply Sirona calls high-frequency 3D data acquisition combined with a confocal principle enhanced with structured light. The practical result is scan data that is dense enough to capture fine margin detail even in subgingival preparations without the clinician needing to retract aggressively before scanning. The deep scan feature captures data 20 mm below the surface, which covers most crown margin depths without additional prep modification.

The scanner also integrates with the CEREC ecosystem's AI-powered restoration design tools. Dentsply Sirona's CEREC software uses machine learning to propose restoration anatomy based on the adjacent and opposing dentition, which speeds up the design step for crown and bridge cases. When paired with a milling unit, same-day restorations become a realistic clinical offering rather than an exception.

For practices that are building the full chairside CAD/CAM loop, our CEREC CAD/CAM financing overview covers the complete workflow from scan to mill. The Dentsply Sirona brand financing page covers the full product line, including the Orthophos S CBCT, the Axeos, and the Teneo and Intego treatment centers.

Practices currently using an Omnicam who are considering an upgrade should know that the Primescan is backwards-compatible with existing CEREC Connect workflows and established lab relationships, so the upgrade path does not require rebuilding the clinical protocol from scratch. See our Omnicam financing page if you want to compare the two generations side by side.

Financing a Primescan: Standalone vs. Bundled

A standalone Primescan purchase is the simpler structure. The invoice covers the scanner hardware, initial software license, and whatever accessories the dealer includes. We finance the full invoice amount with terms typically in the 36 to 60 month range for scanner-only deals.

A bundled Primescan plus milling unit purchase works the same way but at a higher total. A Primescan plus Primemill package is the most common bundle, and those deals regularly fall priced roughly $100k–$150k, which is the sweet spot for our application-only program. No tax returns required for deals in that range. The process is application plus three months of bank statements, and funding moves in about one to two weeks from a complete submission.

One important note on CEREC software licensing: the annual software maintenance subscription that Dentsply Sirona charges for CEREC Connect is a recurring fee separate from the hardware cost. We finance the hardware and any upfront software license; the ongoing maintenance subscription is an operating expense that falls outside the financed amount. Ask your dealer to break out the upfront versus recurring costs so you have a clear picture of total cost of ownership before finalizing the deal structure.

If your practice is evaluating whether a lease or loan makes more sense for a scanner that will likely be upgraded in five to seven years, our FMV vs. dollar buyout lease comparison lays out the tradeoffs in plain terms.

Practices Buying the Primescan

High-production restorative practices are the primary buyer. A practice that does 15 or more crown and bridge cases per week gets the most immediate production lift from the Primescan, because the speed advantage over a physical impression compounds across that volume. Physical impression elimination also removes the cost of impression trays, polyvinyl siloxane, and the time the front desk spends coordinating lab delivery and return schedules. Practices comparing the full field of intraoral scanners before deciding should read our intraoral scanner financing overview for a category-level look at all options.

Implant and prosthodontic practices use the Primescan as a precision scanning tool for implant impressions, full-arch reconstructions, and complete denture workflows. The scan accuracy the Primescan achieves on implant body-level impressions has become a clinical standard in high-end prosthodontic work. Prosthodontic practices doing implant-supported prosthetics at scale will find the Primescan's accuracy and deep scan capability directly useful.

Practices that are newer to digital workflows and are looking for an entry point into CAD/CAM restorations can also start with the Primescan as the scanner and build the rest of the workflow over time. The scanner does not require a milling unit to be clinically useful: the scan data sends to any open-format lab the same day, eliminating the physical impression step immediately. That makes it a standalone ROI even before the milling unit is added.

Questions

Can I finance the Primescan if I already have a CEREC Omnicam on an existing loan?

Yes. An existing loan on the Omnicam does not block new financing on the Primescan as a separate transaction. We look at your overall debt service coverage, and if the cash flow supports both payments, the new deal proceeds. Alternatively, if you want to consolidate, we can look at refinancing both under a new structure.

Is the CEREC software subscription included in the financed amount or is it separate?

The upfront software license is included in the financed hardware package. The annual CEREC Connect maintenance subscription is a recurring operating cost from Dentsply Sirona and is not financed separately; it gets paid as an ongoing expense like your practice management software subscription.

What is the minimum deal size to use your application-only process?

Our minimum deal size is $50,000 and the application-only process covers deals up to approximately $400,000. A standalone Primescan may fall near or below our minimum, but a Primescan bundled with software and accessories, or paired with a milling unit, will typically clear that threshold.

My practice has been open 18 months and is profitable. Does that qualify?

Yes. Eighteen months in business with strong cash flow and good bank statement history puts you in a solid position for our standard program. We look at three months of bank statements, the application, and business credit. Eighteen months is not a disqualifier.

Can I use Section 179 to deduct the Primescan in year one?

Section 179 and bonus depreciation benefits are available for equipment placed in service during the tax year, including financed equipment. You should confirm with your accountant, but the general rule is that the tax deduction is available in the year the equipment is put in service, regardless of whether it is financed.
